Feel Confident In Your Own Skin
We may unfairly consider skin complaints to be purely cosmetic concerns, but let me tell you that those with poor skin in generally unseen places (scalp, buttocks, toes) are often just as vocal about their discomfort as those with acne on their faces. It isn’t vanity to want clear, smooth, glowing skin. It’s the part of us that we use the most to express who we are and how we feel!
The skin is a type of “epithelial tissue” that has a protein called keratin woven into us. Keratin makes us a little more water resistant so that when we don’t absorb water all the water in the bath or a rain storm. The tissue lining our digestive tract is also epithelial tissue, same with the insides of our lungs and bronchi, only those tissues don’t have the keratin.
My point is that if we see symptoms on our visible, outer skin that usually indicates that there is irritation and inflammation happening to our inner skin too! They are similar tissues with similar nutritional needs and using similar molecules to communicate with the immune system when they are hurt.
Clinically this holds up as often people with skin concerns tend to have digestive symptoms as well, and one of the most effective ways to support skin health is through supporting the function of the digestive tract! Hormones are also often at play as well…and they are likewise regulated and detoxified through the digestive tract. It all comes down to strong roots in healthy soil (see digestion if that analogy doesn’t make sense!)
