Storing energy as fat was life-saving for our ancestors. It’s life-threatening for us.

Excess weight around the belly, rising blood sugar and lipid lab values, increasing talk about blood pressure or blood sugar meds with your doctor…all signs that it’s time to shift the gears of your inner metabolism.

We evolved spending much of our days in pursuit of food. As we transitioned from hunter-gatherers, who had huuuuge dietary diversity and oscillated between feast and famine, we settled into agricultural societies where we brought our food supplies closer to us. Why go in search of yams when we can transplant them into a garden patch near our homes?

Now the world is even smaller and most of us in the Western world have unlimited access to food year-round. Some are out of season (strawberries dipped in chocolate for Valentines Day? Why not!), and some are so highly processed as to make the component ingredients unrecognizable (soda pop does not look a bit like the corn from which that fructose syrup was derived).

Our metabolism has not evolved at a pace with our food supply and now the diet-driven “Western Diseases” of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, fatty liver, dementia, and obesity are becoming household words, and even a right of passage for some of our elders.

It doesn’t have to be like this! We can still have our cake and eat it too! Albeit a small portion of cake, made with whole food ingredients, and only consumed after a balanced meal full of nutrients…

It’s not so much about weight loss (although for some people that is the driving concern to get them through the door), it’s about life loss. You deserve a long, healthy experience on this planet with a great quality of life.
